Samsung has officially launched its Android 4.0 Galaxy Nexus. The new Google-Samsung smartphone will send shockwaves throughout the industry, stealing enthusiastic Apple customers away from the iPhone. In a one-on-one interview with Samsung’s VP of telecommunications, Tyler McGee, SmartHouse was lucky enough to find out why.Samsung's Galaxy Nexus is dominated by a 720HD touch screen, influencing its 4.65" profile. Inside is a dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and memory starting from 16GB. These are the specs of a market leading phone.
It will be the first phone to run Android's new software, known as Android 4.0 (or Ice Cream Sandwich). The new operating system is the successor to its mobile and tablet parents, with both of their DNA obviously seeping through its user interface. When you look at the evolution of [Android]…you see the refinements they've added and brought to the new operating system, said McGee.As Ice Cream Sandwich combines the best elements of Google's Honeycomb and Gingerbread OS, the same software will be used on both tablets and smartphones in the future, creating one unified and seamless experience between the devices.
According to McGee, Android now accounts for 55% of Australian purchases in the smartphone market. The new Ice Cream Sandwich OS will only see it grow stronger. One of the most impressive features showcased by McGee was Android Beam. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus uses in-built Near Field Communications (NFC) technology to rapidly transfer communications between compatible devices.
